Ingredients

Ridge Gourd – 250gms

Carrot – 1

Bottle Gourd – 250gms

Pumpkin - 100gms

Raw banana - 1/2 no.

Yam - 100gms

Long beans - 50gms

Toor dal - 100gms

Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

Chilli powder - 1 tsp

Salt to taste

Fresh coconut - 1 cup

Cumin Seeds - 1/2 tsp

Mustard - 1 tsp

Urad dal - 1 tsp

Coconut oil - 1 tbsp

Curry leaves - few

Chopped Coriander – 3 tbsps


Directions

Wash the dal and pressure cook, adding turmeric for 15 minutes or till done.

Wash all the vegetables. Cut all the vegetables into 1 inch cubes and cook.

Grind the coconut with jeera into a very smooth paste adding little water. The paste should be very fine.

Take out the dal from the pressure cooker and whisk till smooth. Boil the cooked vegetables and dal, adding salt and chili powder for 10 minutes. Add the ground coconut and boil for 2 more minutes. Remove from stove and add curry leaves.

Heat a pan and add oil to it. when hot add the mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds splutter add the urad dal. When the dal becomes red in color remove from the stove add a few curry leaves and pour into the molakootal. Serve garnished with chopped coriander.

Tips of the day
To remove excess salt in any gravy,make some tiny balls of roti dough and let them simmer with the gravy. They absorb excess salt.Remove them before serving.
