Cook cherupayar with salt and keep aside.
Heat pan, add oil and splutter mustard seeds. Add cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, bay leaves and allow them to splutter. Then add chopped onions and fry until it becomes golden brown. Add curry leaves and fry for one minute. Add chilly powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and saute for another one minute. Add tomatoes and saute. When its done add the cooked daal and enough water. Add salt and mix well. Stir well and allow it to boil. Turn off the flame. Serve it hot with chappathis.
