Grind the coconut, green chillies, garlic and cumin seeds into a coarse paste and keep it aside.
Wash the cheera thoroughly and then chop it fine.
In a heavy bottomed pan heat the oil and splutter the mustard seeds. Fry the onions and curry leaves in it. Add the ground coconut paste and fry foe few minutes. Then add Add the chopped cheera, turmeric powder and salt to it and let it cook on slow fire with out covering until it is dry. Serve it with cooked rice.
